On Saturday, October 10, Taylor’s popular cosmology lecturer Dr. Stephen Pollaine discusses a compelling human question by exploring the relationship between the science of physics and the realm of human consciousness. Scientific methodology hasn’t addressed this important question very well. Dr. Pollaine will attempt to fill in some gaps. He will discuss his own experience with the blind spots of science, presenting evidence that there’s more to reality than we’re current aware of. Verified information in this area would have huge implications for ourselves and for society.
This lecture is Dr. Pollaine’s third at Taylor in 2015.
The evening at Taylor begins with a planetarium show at 7:15 for early arrivals, followed by the lecture at 8 p.m. The same talk will be given again at 9 p.m. with planetarium shows interleaved.
Telescope viewing on the Taylor’s large 16-inch scope will begin after the 2nd lecture around 10 p.m.; outdoor viewing will be possible any time after sunset. With an almost new moon, viewing conditions may be excellent. Several deep sky objects including the M-57 Ring Nebula and the beautiful M-15 globular star cluster are especially well placed for telescopic observation.
Friends of Taylor Observatory-Norton Planetarium sponsors the program. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under.
Taylor is located at the end of Oak Hills Lane in Kelseyville. For further information phone 415 209-3084, consult the website www.taylorobservatory.org or visit the Friends of Taylor Facebook page.
