CLOVERDALE >> Kelseyville High School freshman Andre Williams won his sixth race in as many tries this season, running a personal-best 17 minutes and 46 seconds on Wednesday during a Coastal Mountain Conference cross country meet in Cloverdale.

Kelseyville’s varsity boys, led by Williams, and girls, led by Laurel Weller, defeated Cloverdale in head-to-head scoring on the 3-mile course. The varsity boys won 15-45 while the girls prevailed 26-29.

Every Kelseyville varsity boy and girl set a personal best, ranging from five seconds to 2 minutes and 36 seconds, according to Kelseyville coach Ernest Woodson.

“Ever since I changed our routine a little bit with emphasis on running the mountain (Konocti) and working on upper body strength, we’ve really seen an improvement,” Woodson said.

For the varsity boys, Williams won by 53 seconds over runner-up Jesus Blanco (18:39) of St. Helena.

Kelseyville’s Robert Lozano (19:17) came in third while teammate Kevin Sanchez also cracked the top 10 with a ninth-place time of 20:34.

For the Kelseyville girls, Weller finished fourth overall in 26:17, Yareli Lozano was sixth in 26:46, and Bailey Couey was eighth in 27:40.

In junior varsity boys’ action, Jason Gentle led the Knights at 26:08.

Fort Bragg also participated in the meet.

Kelseyville returns to action next Wednesday in Middletown.
