LOWER LAKE >> The Lower Lake Trojans ran into a wall of orange and black on Thursday night, falling 25-16, 25-7, 25-8 to the North Central League I-leading Kelseyville Knights in varsity volleyball action at Lower Lake.
“They dug up just about everything we hit at them,” Lower Lake coach Darcie Schmidt said of the Knights, now 8-0 in league play. “We swung a lot, but we had only four kills.”
Lower Lake (1-7) was coming off a straight-set win over Willits on Tuesday, but couldn’t carry that momentum over to Kelseyville.
About Lower Lake’s only highlight was a 5-1 lead in the first set, according to Schmidt.
One standout for the Trojans was setter Rebecca Armijo.
“She stepped up and did a good job as our only setter tonight. She did a great job,” Schmidt said.
Heidy Cano’s eight kills powered the Knights up front. Kelseyville also received solid play from Payton Conrad (14 digs), Lauren Rudnick (10 digs), Riley Goff (22 assists) and Kaylie Williams (three aces).
“We got off to a slow start, but we played well after that,” Kelseyville coach Donelle McCallister said.
Lower Lake won the junior varsity match 25-14, 23-25, 15-6.
