UPPER LAKE >> Chris Johnson of the host Upper Lake Cougars won the junior varsity boys’ race on Wednesday during a four-team Coastal Mountain Conference meet at the 3.08-mile Upper Lake High School course.

Rincon Valley Christian, St. Vincent and Point Arena were the other scoring teams taking part. Mendocino participated as a non-scoring team.

Individual winners were Wes Methum of Rincon Valley Christian in the varsity boys’ division with a time of 17 minutes, 57 seconds, Caroline Chambers of Rincon Valley Christian in the girls’ division at 22:42, and Upper Lake’s Johnson in the junior varsity boys’ division at 20:12.

Varsity boys

Methum finished 82 seconds ahead of runner-up and teammate Nick Polan (19:19) in the varsity boys’ race. Griffin Barry of Point Arena (20:14) came in third.

Matt Willard, Upper Lake’s lone runner, finished in 22:12.

Rincon Valley Christian beat the only other scoring team, St. Vincent, 28-40.

Girls

Chambers won by an even bigger margin than Methum, finishing more than two minutes ahead of teammate Josie Wade (25:00). Cristal Nieves of Upper Lake was third in 27:32. Also for Upper Lake, Lyndsay Wade finished in 29:01. Two other Cougars started the race but had to retire.

There were no complete teams (at least five runners) in the girls’ division.

JV boys

Johnson and teammate Blake Noble finished one-town in the JV boys’ race. Noble crossed the finish line in 21:00 while Matthew Eidenderger of Point Arena was third in 21:26.

There were no complete teams in the JV division.

It was the lost home meet for Upper Lake seniors Willard and Molly Sivertsen.
