MIDDLETOWN >> Don’t tell Middletown High School varsity volleyball coach Jennifer Breiner that the Lower Lake Trojans are struggling this season.

“I was really impressed with how they played, especially in those first two games,” Breiner said of the Mustangs’ 25-21, 25-23, 25-14 North Central League I win over the Trojans on Tuesday in Middletown.

While Middletown improved to 4-2 in the league standings, Lower Lake slipped to 1-7.

“They were blocking, digging and and hitting,” Breiner said of the Trojans. “They did a great job against us.”

Abby Aden and Olivia Glosser led the Mustangs with seven kills apiece, Brittany Holt added six kills and Jess DeSilva had five.

For Lower Lake, Ashlynn Mock led the way five kills and 10 service points, Vanessa John added seven service points and Destiny Apodaca had eight digs. Brooke Taliaferro also added six service points.

Lower Lake did win the junior varsity match 25-22, 25-27, 15-11.

Middletown’s busy week continues today with a match in Lakeport against Clear Lake, then the Mustangs hit the road Thursday to play Willits.

Lower Lake hits the road on Thursday to take on Fort Bragg.
