LOWER LAKE >> Players of former Lower Lake High School varsity football coach Gordon Sadler are encouraged to attend Friday’s home game against Cloverdale as the Trojans honor the longtime teacher, coach and athletic director with a moment of silence between games.

Sadler, 77, died suddenly Monday while visiting family in Iowa. He taught and coached at Lower Lake for more than 30 years. His last season at the helm of the Trojans was 1995.

“Between games we will ask those alumni to join the team down on the field before the game for a moment of silence and to stand next to the team during the (playing of the) national anthem,” current Lower Lake varsity football coach Justin Gaddy posted on Facebook early Wednesday morning. “Please join us to remember our coach that influenced so many,” Gaddy added.

Alumni are encouraged to be at the field by no later than 6:30 p.m. They will be directed to the sidelines at Gordon Sadler Field before the start of the varsity game against Cloverdale.

A moment of silence is also being planned for the Middletown at Kelseyville game on Friday night. Sadler was the mentor for Middletown High School 31-year coaching veteran Bill Foltmer and the coach of Kelseyville offensive coordinator Adam Garcia, a 1996 Lower Lake graduate and star football player for the Trojans.

No formal services for Sadler have been set yet.
