
FRESNO >> Jose Fernandez III and Aiden Dancer of the Golden State Wrestling Club, formerly the Upper Lake Junior Cougars, traveled to Fresno on Oct. 10 to compete in the California World Challenge, one of the state’s toughest preseason tournaments.
Fernandez III competed in the 122-pound high school elite division but did not place. Dancer, competing in the 54-pound 8-and-under division, went 2-2 and finished fifth.
In the SAWA Folkstyle Championships on Oct. 18 at Sierra College in Rocklin, Dancer and Gabriella Fernandez both went undefeated in their respective brackets. Donavan Fernandez and Silas Dancer finished second in their brackets, both with 1-1 records. Julio Fernandez added a third-place finish in the 40-pound pee wee bracket.
Fernandez III and Dancer are traveling to Las Vegas on Sunday for the Freak Show, a Rocky Mountain National event. Other members of Golden State Wrestling are off to a tournament in the Sacramento area on Sunday.
