Clearlake >> Months of investigation led Clearlake police and FBI agents to a suspected bank robber almost 2,400 miles away.
Samuel Campbell, 25, is awaiting extradition to California for his alleged involvement in a two-person armed robbery that took place at Bank of the West on July 8. He was found in Flint, Michigan on Oct. 20 after Clearlake officer Joseph Myers and federal investigators obtained a warrant for Campbell’s arrest with the additional assistance of the United States Attorney General’s Office, Clearlake Police Department (CPD) Lt. Tim Celli said.
Initial reports of the crime stated that a man and woman wearing black hooded sweatshirts and sunglasses took an undisclosed amount of money from the bank and drove away in a gold colored SUV, similar to but not necessarily a Toyota 4Runner. It was last seen fleeing the scene north on Washington Street, CPD Sgt. Rodd Joseph stated at the time of the release.
The investigation is still underway to positively identify the female suspect despite Campbell’s refusal to provide a statement for police. And Celli said that a person of interest has been developed.
Any person with information on this case is urged to contact Myers at (707) 994-8251, ext. 505.
