UPDATED:

Jaymie Thibeau is a newcomer to Lake County. She moved to Lakeport from Nevada five years ago with her husband and immediately fit in — well, immediately after realizing the community supported a costume shop. That’s right, One Stop Party Shop in downtown Lakeport. The place carries costumes, wigs, makeup, accessories and all the makings of a great holiday disguise. Thibeau loves Halloween, so you can find the Carson City native decked out behind the counter in what was, this week, a very crowded shop.

1. How many costumes to you guys carry?

Oh [looks around the shop, calculating]. We have a decent selection of packaged costumes, but the possibilities are endless.

2. What’s the most popular?

This year, the super heroes — and Elsa for the children. For women we’ve been getting inquiries about gypsy costumes. Pirates are popular, and the ‘20s and ‘50s.

3. The ‘20s and ‘50s? Why?

I’m not sure. I think there’s a themed Roaring Twenties event somewhere. I’m not sure about the ‘50s.

4. What’s your favorite?

We’ve been dressing up every day this month. My favorite would have to be Harley Quinn.

5. How about the strangest you’ve seen?

There haven’t bee a lot of wierd ones this year. The most unusual was Bigfoot as a football player.

6. I bet it gets busy here.

The last week has been a zoo, a constant parade of people.

7. Are you happy when this is over?

Oh, I live for Halloween. I look forward to it. I get to dress up every day. I’m not going to miss telling people that we’re out of contacts 15 times a day, but this is fun. I love it.

8. What is it about Halloween that makes it so popular?

The costumes. Halloween gives people a chance to dress up and be someone else. And we’re the only place to get specialty items like the theater quality scars.

9. It’s amazing what’s available.

Yeah, we’ve got a little of every thing.

10. What happens on Nov. 1? Do you put it all away?

No, we’re open all year. We get a lot of people from the theater for their costuming. We do wigs. We have chemo patients who come in. Because some of them don’t want people to know we often make private appointments. They’re going through enough already.
