LAKEPORT >> Dwayne Yiggins rushed for 151 yards and two scores and Logan Barrick’s only two completions were touchdowns as the Kelseyville Knights beat the Clear Lake 26-6 in Bass Bowl VI on Friday night in Lakeport.
Kelseyville had a 26-0 lead late in the third quarter before Clear Lake broke up the shutout on a 55-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Dore to wide receiver Frankie Sturr.
With 10:10 left in the fourth quarter, the Cardinals, who suited up only 12 players, were reduced to 10 when Jake Jackson had to leave the field with a severely dislocated thumb.
“It does feel good,” Kelseyville coach Erick Larsen said of the team’s first league win. “The first half I didn’t think we came out playing as fast and playing as aggressive as I wanted, but we came out in the second half and did a much better job.”
Barrick’s 49-yard strike to Gideon Turner late in the first quarter put the Knights (1-5 league, 2-7 overall) on top 6-0. Yiggins’ 11-yard run late in the second quarter made it 13-0 at the half.
Kelseyville opened the second half with an onside kick that was recovered by kicker Elias Alvarez. The Knights had a 20-0 lead five plays later when Yiggins burst up the middle and cut it back to his right on a 20-yard touchdown run.
Barrick’s 22-yard scoring pass to Asa Peters later in the quarter made it 26-0.
“They played their butts off,” Clear Lake coach Darin Brodnansky said of his outnumbered Cardinals (1-5, 2-7). “Whether we had 12, 11 or 10 players, they still don’t want to quit. They never let me down, fought to the end.”
