Lucerne >> Live power lines fell across Country Club Drive and onto a school fence after an alleged drunk driver struck a utility pole early Friday morning.

Holdyn Gray Guthrie was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI having only sustained minor injuries.

The Susanville resident, 22, crashed at about 2:30 a.m. driving a 2000 Dodge Ram pickup truck at an unknown speed eastbound on Country Club Drive near 17th Street.

Guthrie lost control and veered off the south side of the roadway hitting a utility pole and transformer box, according to reports from California Highway Patrol officer Ryan Erickson who was at the scene. The driver continued in a southeasterly direction, then crashed into a chain-link fence at Lucerne Elementary School and a second transformer box.

Power lines on the north side of Country Club Drive subsequently fell following the initial crash into the utility pole, Erickson stated.

Officers at the scene noted Guthrie was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. He was placed under arrest by Erickson as it appeared alcohol was a factor in the incident.
