LAKEPORT >> Running back Patrick Mick took some huge chunks out of the Clear Lake High School defense on Friday night — 185 yards worth — while the Kelseyville Knights beat the Cardinals 20-7 in the junior varsity Bass Bowl game at Don Owens Stadium in Lakeport.
Mick carried the ball 15 times and scored one of the Knights’ three touchdowns. Kelseyville (5-1 league, 7-2 overall) is tied with Willits for the league lead heading into the final week of the season.
Jordy Lopez scored Kelseyville’s other two touchdowns, one rushing and the other on a 28-yard reception.
Kelseyville’s defense also turned in another strong effort. Team leaders were J.D. Prescott with seven solo tackles and two assists, John Mendonca with five tackles, one assist and a 17-yard interception return, and Shaun Beverlin with four tackles and one assist.
No Clear Lake statistics were reported.
Kelseyville can do no worse than a tie for the league title with a victory at home Friday night against Lower Lake at 5:30 p.m. Willits hosts St. Helena.
