UPDATED:

Middletown Christian School student Sam Toback competed at the Regional level of the Lions Speech Competition held at Napa. Toback was the winner in the Club & Zone contests, which includes Lions Clubs Lakeport Early Lake, Kelseyville, Clearlake Lakeshore, Middletown and Cobb Mountain.

This year’s topic was “Water Conservation – How Can We Reduce, Recycle and Reclaim?” For winning the Region Speaker Contest, Middletown Lions Chair Eldena Hanson-Russell presented Toback a $175 check from District 4-C2.

Toback is a sophomore who hopes to pursue a career in law or politics. He plans to participate in the Lions Club speech competition again this semester.

“This opportunity has broadened my experiences in public speaking about important matters which affect our communities and our nation,” he said. “I am thankful to the Lions for creating this opportunity, and grateful for my achievements. My goal is to compete on the state level this year.”

Hanson-Russel stated, “Quite frequently I’m asked what is the purpose of the contest. The contest provides an opportunity for competitive public speaking among students on a subject of vital interest to the contestants and to the American people. It stimulates self-expression and independent thinking, and provides the student the opportunity to speak to the public involved in maintaining this commonwealth as a free nation.”

For information on the program, contact Hanson-Russell at 987-05236 or 322-0300.
