REDDING >> The Lorenz Hotel in Downtown Redding will be receiving a special plaque detailing its history on Saturday at noon. The Hotel, which is managed by Christian Church Homes, was converted into senior housing in 1978.

After the death of her husband Henry, in 1895, Susan Lorenz purchased two Redding city blocks. She used the profit from the family’s Red Hill placer mine in Junction City to finance the hotel’s construction on her new lot. When the “Lady Lorenz” opened in 1902, the 132 room hotel became a landmark for those travelers on the railroad and residences for families of copper miners.

The Ancient and Honorable Order of E Clampus Vitus is a fraternal organization that is dedicated to the study and preservation of Western Heritage. The Clampers have unveiled plaques throughout the county; at locations such as Jack’s Grill and the Foster Hotel. On Saturday they will continue their tribute to history with a new plaque for the Lorenz Hotel.
