County runners headed to Hayward

Lake County will send a contingent of cross country runners, including freshman Andre Williams of Kelseyville and junior Tiyanna Meese of Middletown, to the North Coast Section Championships on Saturday at Hayward High School in Hayward. The top teams and top five at-large runners (not members of the top teams) in each of five divisions advance to the CIF State Championships the following Saturday at Woodward Park in Fresno. Clear Lake High School is also expected to send complete boys’ and girls’ teams to Hayward. Lake County last qualified a runner for the state meet in 2005 when senior Mike Perez of Lower Lake finished fifth at sectionals and senior Julia Malvino of Middletown came in 13th. Perez went on to place fourth in the Division IV boys’ race in Fresno, the best finish ever by a Lake County runner.
