KELSEYVILLE >> The 44th annual Stokes Tournament for varsity boys’ and girls’ basketball teams returns to Kelseyville High School on Dec. 3-5 with a slightly different look from past seasons.
Only six teams are entered in each bracket this year unlike the standard eight-team brackets of previous years. Joining host Kelseyville in the boys’ division are Clear Lake, Elsie Allen (Santa Rosa), Sonoma Valley, South Fork (Miranda) and Technology (Rohnert Park). Along with Kelseyville in the girls’ division are Upper Lake, Cloverdale, Ferndale, South Fork and St. Helena.
First-round games on Dec. 3 in the girls’ division have Upper Lake vs. St. Helena at 10 a.m., Cloverdale vs. Ferndale at 2:30 p.m., and Kelseyville vs. South Fork at 5:30 p.m. First-round games in the boys’ division have Clear Lake vs. Sonoma Valley at 11:30 a.m., Elsie Allen vs. Technology at 4 p.m., and Kelseyville vs. South Fork at 7 p.m.
On Dec. 4, the second day of the tournament, the girls’ bracket features Kelseyville vs. the Upper Lake-St. Helena loser at 10 a.m., South Fork vs. the Cloverdale-Ferndale loser at 4 p.m., and the winners of Upper Lake-St. Helena and Cloverdale-Ferndale at 7 p.m. In the boys’ bracket, second-round games feature Kelseyville vs. the Clear Lake-Sonoma Valley loser at 11:30 a.m., South Fork vs. the Elsie Allen-Technology loser at 2:30 p.m., and the Clear Lake-Sonoma Valley and South Fork-Elsie Allen winners at 5:30 p.m.
Boys’ and girls’ games on the final day of the tournament, Dec. 5, will be announced and will be based on results from the first two days. Every attempt will be made to pair teams by record (2-0 vs. 2-0, 1-1 vs. 1-1 and 0-2 vs. 0-2), however, teams will not face a final-round opponent they have already played in the tournament.
Game times on Dec. 5 are 11:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. (championship) in the girls’ bracket and 1 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. (championship) in the boys’ bracket.
The Stokes Tournament is the longest-running tournament in Lake County.
