UPPER LAKE >> Lake County Superintendent of Schools, Brock Falkenberg, announced Wednesday his appointments for the new unified school district that will form as a result of unification of the Upper Lake Union High School District and the Upper Lake Union Elementary School District.
The new school board members will be Mel O’Meara, Keith Austin, Diane Plante, Claudine Pedroncelli, and Don Meri. Trustees O’Meara, Plante, and Meri are currently serving on the school board for the Elementary District. Trustees Austin and Pedroncelli are currently serving on the school board for the High School District.
According to Falkenberg, the decision regarding board members was extremely difficult, as there were a good number of high quality, high caliber individuals interested in serving on the board.
The unification of the two school districts was initiated by a petition by the two school boards. The County Committee on School District Organization approved the unification on Oct. 21. The official date of unification will be July 1, 2016. The Lucerne School District is not a part of the unification and will continue to serve kindergarten through 8th grade students in the Lucerne area.
The first board meeting for the Unified School District is scheduled for 6 p.m., Dec. 15, at Upper Lake High School.
