Kelseyville High School soccer sensation Megan Touros didn’t plan on playing past high school, but she had a change of heart and on Friday signed a letter of intent to attend Mendocino College in Ukiah beginning with the 2016-17 academic year. Mendocino College associate head coach Cesar Vega said he expects Touros to make an immediate impact with the Eagles, who compete in the Bay Valley Conference and who are coming off an 8-11-2 record this past season. “She’ll be our striker and I expect her to score 20 or more goals next season,” Vega said of the senior, who led the Knights to a third-place finish in the North Central League I and to the postseason for the first time in a decade. Vega scouted Touros numerous times during the 2015 season and said she was his No. 1 choice among players in Lake County. Touros split time this season between offense and defense, often giving the Knights the lead in the first half and then shutting down the opposition in the second half. She recorded four hat tricks (three-goal games) as a forward. “She was the tip of the spear,” Kelseyville coach Eric Hoefler said when asked about Touros’ importance to the Knights. As much as he’s going to miss his star forward, Hoefer said Touros’ continuing athletic career as a member of the Mendocino College team will inspire younger Kelseyville players to work hard and pursue their own dreams of playing college ball.
