Free sandbags for fire area

LAKE COUNTY >> Sand and sandbags will be made available to fire-affected areas because of a hazard mitigating grant, according to Scott De Leon, Lake County Public Works Director.

In the event of a weather emergency, people in fire-affected areas can obtain free sandbags or sand at the South Lake County Fire Stations in Middletown, Loch Lomond and Hidden Valley Lake fire stations. Granite Construction donated sand to make this possible, with Archer Trucking and RB Peters providing the transport of the sand.

Pet supplies

Lakeport >> Skin Fitness is holding their annual “Furry Friends Drive” for the month of December. Come into the spa with a donation of any kind – pet food, toys, bedding, etc. and you will receive a free gift from Skin Fitness and you will be entered in their December door prize, valued over $100. All donations and proceeds will go to local non-profit groups including Orphan Dogs.

Rotary winter clothes drive

CLEARLAKE >> The Rotary Club of Clear Lake is currently accepting donations for its annual Warm of the Winter giveaway. Items that are accepted included coats, gloves, tents, tarps and blankets which will go to families and homeless people in need. They are especially in need of kids’ coats, socks, underwear and hats.

The giveaway will take place on Saturday, Dec. 12 during the Rotary community Christmas dinner at Burns Valley Elementary School, located at 3620 Pine Street in Clearlake.

Donations for Warm of the Winter will be accepted until Friday, Dec. 11. If you wish to contribute items, contact Joyce Overton at 350-2898. Or drop off items at the Highlands Senior Center from 9 a.m. — 3 p.m., Monday to Friday.

Coats for kids

Lakeport >> DKI First Pick Builders is sponsoring a coat drive through Friday, Dec. 18 for children ages 6 to 18. Donations of new coats can be made to the DKI Winter Coat Drive at their office in Lakeport at 2480 S. Main St., across from Mendo Mill, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

If you are unable to drop off a donation, or for questions or information, call Sinda at 355-1009 to schedule a pickup.
