Lake County >> The organizers of the Cobb and Middletown Gifting a Tree Project have set up a tree donation network at many area nurseries. The goal of the project is to help replace at least some of the approximately 7 million trees destroyed during the Valley Fire.
“We are hoping to bring some greenery and life back for those who are rebuilding after losing their homes and trees,” stated one of the organizers, Kathy Blair, of Cobb. “Rebuilding is a challenging process. Planting a tree gives hope to those who desperately need it.”
To contribute to the project, go to one of the participating nurseries. Tell them you want to contribute to the Cobb and Middletown Gifting a Tree Project. Then, either purchase a live Christmas tree (in a container, not a cut tree), enjoy the tree for your own use over the holidays and then “plant it forward” by gifting it to this project; purchase another type of tree and leave it at the nursery for them to pick up; or purchase a gift card from one of the participating nurseries and leave it at the nursery for them to pick up. All gift cards will be used to purchase trees for this project.
All trees collected will be distributed by a lottery to the residents of Cobb and Middletown communities who lost their homes and are rebuilding.
To donate a live tree, contact Kathy Blair at 972-2084 or georgiablairs@mchsi.com, or Chris Hurley at 321-9283 or johnchristimb@comcast.net for drop-off information, or a pick-up may be scheduled for the weekends of Jan. 2-3 or Jan. 9-10.
