WILLITS >> Responding to a request from Lake County International Charter School (LCICS), the Willits Elementary Charter School (WECS) student council coordinated a walk-a-thon to raise money for LCICS students and staff members who lost their homes in the recent Valley Fire.

Each class walked individually during their PE time on Nov. 4 with volunteers and teachers pitching in to count laps. Students and their families raised $2007.50. Funds were released to LCICS in time for the holidays.

“As soon as I saw the letter from the LCICS Director asking for help, I knew WECS students would want to be involved,” Director Kara McClellan noted. “Our hearts go out to all of those who lost their homes and we hope this contribution will help families get back on their feet.”
