LARKSPUR >> Lower Lake High School’s wrestling squad was among 12 teams participating in a dual tournament on Saturday at Redwood High School in Larkspur and the Trojans came away with a 2-3 record.
While a majority of the team’s newer wrestlers spent the day in Middletown at the Coastal Mountain Conference Novice Tournament, freshman Blake Fredrickson joined the Trojans’ veteran wrestlers in Larkspur and came away with a 4-0 record that included three pins and an 11-6 decision – the only points he allowed.
Fredrickson wrestled up a weight class at 113 pounds where he went 3-0. He was 1-0 at 106 pounds.
“I knew he was a good wrestler but he really showed me something,” Lower Lake coach Ed Fuchs said. “He came out and held his own against more experienced wrestlers.”
Dahsaan Booker was another Lower Lake standout, posting a 4-1 record with four pins at 120 pounds.
“He was just in a zone,” Fuchs said of Booker.
Lower Lake beat Redwood 40-36 and Albany 42-35 for its two wins. It lost on criteria in a 34-33 setback to Sacred Heart. The Trojans’ other losses were 57-12 to Northgate and 45-27 to Campolindo.
“We didn’t feel like a 2-3 team coming out of it,” Fuchs said. “We could have won the Sacred Heart match and we wrestled well against Northgate and Campolindo.”
Northgate advanced to the finals against Ukiah.
Lower Lake hosts the 12-team South Lake Scuffle on Saturday.
