COLUSA >> Clear Lake parlayed a big 20-point first quarter into a 46-31 victory over Wheatland on Saturday in the varsity girls’ consolation championship game of the Colusa Basketball Tournament.

Taylor Helms led the Cardinals (2-1) with 13 points, including three 3-point field goals, and Corin Alakszay added eight points.

Clear Lake led 20-6 after the opening period and took a 40-22 advantage into the fourth quarter.

The Cardinals hit the road today to play Roseland Prep in a non-league game. Junior varsity action begins at 4 p.m. with the varsity game to follow. Clear Lake is also entered the Redwood Empire Invitational Basketball Tournament in Healdsburg, which opens on Wednesday and runs through Saturday.
