LAKEPORT >> Police arrested a Lakeport woman after a single car accident early Saturday morning. Alicia Marie Smith, 29, faces charges related to driving under the influence of alcohol.
Officers responding to a call at approximately 2:20 a.m. on Saturday found a vehicle had smashed through a fence and sheared a power pole in the 2300 block of Lakeshore Blvd. The driver was standing nearby. A crew from the Lakeport Fire Protection District arrived and determined that Smith was uninjured, but police officers noticed that she was displaying signs of intoxication.
According to a press statement by Lakeport Chief of Police Brad Rasmussen, Smith admitted to consuming four or five drinks during the evening.
Officers administered a series of field sobriety tests which she was unable to pass. Officers also determined that, based on the results of a preliminary alcohol screening device, Smith’s blood alcohol level at the time of the collision was approximately .21 percent.
Smith was arrested and transported to the Lakeport Police Department (LPD) for questioning and blood alcohol testing by breath on the California Department of Justice blood alcohol breath machine, after which she was taken to the Lake County Jail.
This incident marked the second suspected drunk driving collision in Lakeport over a three day span.
“We ask that all drivers keep our streets safe and not drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” Rasmussen said in the statement. “Call a friend, family member or a taxi, it is not worth risking other people’s lives.”
Lakeport police urge residents to call 911 to report all suspected drunk drivers on our streets and highways.
PG&E responded to the scene to repair the damaged power pole.
