UPPER LAKE >> Just three games into its 2015-16 schedule, the Upper Lake High School varsity boys’ basketball team already has one more win than it did all of last season.

Upper Lake improved to 3-0 on the season Monday with a 72-64 non-league home victory over the Laytonville Warriors. Isaac Nevarez propelled the Cougars, scoring 26 of his team-leading 34 points in the second half, including all of his five 3-pointers. Derek Pritchard added 15 points and Cody Rybolt had eight.

Upper Lake suited up only seven players for the game, only six of whom could play in the first half.

Alex Durbin made his first start of the season and scored six points in the second quarter to turn momentum in Upper Lake’s favor, according to head coach Justin Dutcher.

The Cougars led 38-30 at the half.
