LAKE COUNTY >> While it’s a hectic tournament weekend for Lake County’s varsity boys’ and girls’ basketball teams, the county’s junior varsity squads are also staying plenty busy.

Among JV girls’ teams, Clear Lake, Kelseyville, Lower Lake and Upper Lake won’t have to travel very far as they are competing in a tournament at Clear Lake High School in Lakeport on Friday and Saturday. The eight participating teams – Mendocino, Cloverdale, Point Arena and St. Helena are also entered — each play one game on Friday and two on Saturday.

Among first-round games Friday, Kelseyville plays Lower Lake at 3 p.m. while Upper Lake takes on Clear Lake at 7:30 p.m.

Action on Saturday begins with consolation semifinals at 9 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. and continues with winner’s semifinals at 11:30 and 12:45 p.m. Final-round games open with seventh place at 2 p.m., the consolation championship at 3:15, third place at 4:30 p.m., and championship at 6 p.m.

Middletown’s JV girls are competing in the Analy JV Tournament in Sebastopol, which opens today and runs through Saturday.

In JV boys’ action this weekend, Clear Lake, Kelseyville and Upper Lake are participating in the Willits JV Tournament on Friday and Saturday at Willits High School. The Ukiah freshman squad, St. Helena, South Fork, Fort Bragg and host Willits round out the field. All teams play one game Friday and two more on Saturday.

In first-round action Friday, Clear Lake goes up against the Ukiah frosh squad at 3:30 p.m., Upper Lake battles St. Helena at 5 p.m., and Kelseyville takes on South Fork at 6:30 p.m.

Consolation semifinals open Saturday’s schedule at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. followed by winner’s semifinals at noon and 1:30 p.m. The final round includes the seventh-place game at 3 p.m., the consolation championship game at 4:30 p.m., the third-place game at 6 p.m., and the championship game at 7:30 p.m.

The Middletown and Lower Lake JV boys’ teams have the weekend off.
