Lake County >> The North Coast Opportunities (NCO) Volunteer Network has announced that it will once again partner with MendoLake Credit Union and Mendocino College to provide free income tax preparation services in Lake and Mendocino counties.
As part of a multi-county coalition headed by the United Way of the Wine Country, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, also known as the Earn It! Keep It! Save It! Program, helps low-income residents file their 2015 taxes.
Last year, more than 200 returns were prepared in Lake County, bringing close to $300,000 back into the community.
The program is in need of volunteers to serve in Lakeport and Clearlake preparing tax returns and greeting clients. No experience is necessary and training is provided. Volunteers comfortable with tax preparation may complete the online training at home if preferred.
