Lakeport >> The end of the year will also mark the end of the Main Street shop World of Gifts.

Co-owner Pamela Dukes said she and partner Patricia Caruthers decided to close after being in business for about three years, partly due to poor economic conditions in Lake County as well as the desire to retire.

“Retail is hard work. It’s time for retirement,” Dukes said. Adding that she wanted scale back and spend more time to with her grandchildren.

Dukes describes the store as a small, unique gift shop. She’s picked up some items to sell there from her own travels to Asia and Mexico. They carry a number of imported things as well, from Egyptian perfume bottles to Nepalese sweaters and Indian jewelry, the store has pieces from all over the globe. It’s also stocked with specialty items including candles, books, pillows and essential oils co-owner Pamela Dukes said are selling quickly.

Except for Christmas the store will be open every single day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. until it closes its doors for the last time on Dec. 31.

Everything is currently on sale at 40-percent off, and Dukes said deals may get better after Christmas as the closing day approaches to sell as much as possible.

World of Gifts is located at 350 N. Main St. in Lakeport.
