MORGAN HILL >> Charlie Adams, a 14-year-old member of the Lake County Channel Cats Swim Club, went up against some of the top swimmers in Northern California last weekend during Pacific Swimming’s 14-and-under Winter Championships at Morgan Hill.
Adams swam in nine events in the 13-14 boys’ division during the three-day-long Junior Olympic-level competition. He reached the finals in two, placing seventh in the 500-yard freestyle and ninth in the 1,000 freestyle. Adams also placed 10th in the 1,650 freestyle and 13th in the 400 individual medley (IM). His other events were the 50, 100 and 200 freestyles, 200 backstroke and and 200 IM.
A freshman at Clear Lake High School in Lakeport, Adams said he is looking forward to competing in high school swimming this coming spring.
The Lake County Channel Cats swim daily at the Quail Run Fitness Club outdoor pool and new members are welcome, whether you’re interested in competitive swimming or just staying in shape.
