SACRAMENTO >> The Federal Emergency Management Agency has provided rental assistance to 568 households in Lake County in the wake of the Valley Fire. Earlier FEMA approved a 125 percent waiver above the Housing and Urban Development fair market rate to account for local costs.

Rental resources continue to be available through FEMA for those who registered with the organization by the Nov. 23 deadline. These are available on a first come, first served basic. Those who have turned down and continue to turn down rental resources may no longer be eligible for temporary housing assistance, depending upon the reason.

Disaster survivors whose insurance provided Additional Living Expenses (ALE) that are expiring are encouraged to contact the FEMA if they registered with the agency and still have a temporary housing need.

This temporary housing assistance is available to eligible FEMA applicants who lost or sustained damage to their homes due to the Valley Fire.

Fax or mail a letter to FEMA explaining the situation and provide a document with expiration of ALE from insurance and provide an update of the permanent housing plan. FEMA’s fax number is 800-827-8112. Those who have questions can call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362. For those who use a TTY, call 800-462-7585 directly. Those who use 711 or Video Relay Service (VRS), call 800-621-3362.
