LAKEPORT >> The Lakeport City Council appointed councilmember Marc Spillman to the role of Mayor for 2016.
Appointed by now former Mayor Martin Scheel, Spillman received unanimous support by his fellow councilmembers at the regular meeting on Tuesday. However, his first go as mayor is expected to be short as he announced that he will not seek reelection at the end of next year because he is “increasing family and new business responsibilities.”
“It’s definitely appropriate that he will be mayor for his last term,” Scheel said. “I think Marc will do a good job.”
Elected to the council in 2012, Spillman’s resume includes a successful effort to achieve funding for Carnegie Library improvements, approving changes to Westside Park and serving on the Lakeport Planning Commission.
His first act as mayor was appointing Stacy Mattina to remain Mayor Pro Tem—a position she has held for three years. Her appointment was also uncontested.
“I’d be honored,” she said to Spillman. “I’d be glad to help you.”
Now that his term has ended, Scheel returns to the city council as a regular member. He is up for reelection at the end of next year but has recently announced his campaign for the District 4 seat of the Lake County Board of Supervisors.
“I’d like to say thank you to the citizens of Lakeport and my fellow councilmembers,” he said. “It’s been a great experience.
