POINT ARENA >> The Upper Lake High School varsity boys’ basketball team took the court on Thursday morning to face Swett of Crockett in the opening round of the Point Arena Tournament.
Surprise.
Swett never showed.
“We were supposed to play at 11 and they (tournament officials) waited until 11:10 (until calling the game),” Upper Lake head coach Justin Dutcher said. “I guess they dropped out of the tournament and never told anyone.”
Instead of counting the game as a forfeit win, Upper Lake will treat it as no game, according to Dutcher.
“We’ll try and reschedule a game with them later on,” he said of Swett.
Tournament officials moved Upper Lake into tonight’s winner’s semifinal round where they will play the first-round winner between Kennedy and South Fork at 5 p.m.
Swett wasn’t the only team not to show up Thursday.
“I heard they had three girls’ teams drop out, leaving them with only five (instead of eight),” Dutcher said.
Upper Lake takes a 5-2 record into today’s action.
