SANTA ROSA >> Ahead 22-16 at halftime, the Kelseyville Knights never really showed up in the second half against the Maria Carrillo Pumas on Tuesday night in a non-league varsity boys’ basketball game in Santa Rosa.

Maria Carrillo went on to win 47-34, only the second loss in 10 games for the Knights this season.

“We felt like we should have been up more at the half, more like in double digits,” Kelseyville coach Scott Conrad said. “In the second half we didn’t function at all. The physical effort was there but we didn’t run our offense. We didn’t get the ball into the post and didn’t react to their pressure. It was a mentally tough night for us.”

Maria Carrillo outscored Kelseyville 15-6 in the third quarter to push ahead and a 16-6 final period added to the Pumas’ advantage.

“We scored 12 points in the second half and four of those were in the last minute of the game,” Conrad said.

Kevin Ellis led the Knights with 10 points and Hunter Beatty and Nick Pfann added six apiece.

Maria Carrillo also won the junior varsity game.

The Knights are off until Dec. 30 when they travel to Paradise for a non-league game.
