KELSEYVILLE >> Bailey Couey took charge in the final seconds and her three-point play helped lift the Kelseyville Knights to a 36-33 victory over the Las Plumas Thunderbirds of Oroville in a non-league junior varsity girls’ basketball game on Saturday afternoon at Kelseyville.

Couey, who led all scorers with 17 points, drove inside on a layup, made the shot and drew the foul to snap a 33-all tie with 10 seconds remaining. She added the free throw to give Kelseyville a three-point cushion.

The best the Thunderbirds could do as the final seconds ticked off the clock was to attempt a shot from behind the half-court stripe.

“It wasn’t close,” Kelseyville coach Don Green said. “But the rest of the game was exciting all the way around.”

Grace Duty and Tymeka Green each had six points for the Knights, who open their North Central League I schedule tonight at home against Fort Bragg at 5:30 p.m.
