KELSEYVILLE >> Forty-eight points in the first half punctuated another strong performance by the Kelseyville Knights in their final warmup before the start of North Central League I play tonight in Fort Bragg.
Nick Pfann led the way with 22 points and Kyle Ellis added 17 as the Knights hammered the El Molino Lions 77-45 on Saturday night in Kelseyville, closing out the non-league portion of their varsity boys’ basketball schedule at 10-2.
“They came out and pressured us and we handled it very well,” Kelseyville coach Scott Conrad said of a 26-14 first quarter. “We got a lot of layups.”
When the Lions backed out of their press in the second quarter, the Knights ran up and down the floor and scored another 22 points to open up a 48-22 halftime lead.
“We got out and ran very well,” Conrad said. “Most of those (second-quarter) points were generated by our defense.”
“It was a good final tuneup before the start of league play,” Conrad said. “Our chemistry is really good on this team. The biggest problem I have as a coach right now is finding enough minutes for everybody. That’s a nice problem to have.”
After opening league play on the road tonight in Fort Bragg, the Knights return home Friday for a key contest against defending NCL I champion Cloverdale.
