Lake County >> Scotts Valley Band of Pomo Indians in association with the EPA will present “Clear Lake cyanotoxin Tribal Education Collaborative Workshop,” Jan. 9 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Konocti Vista Casino, Big Valley Rancheria. The creative community workshop will address cyanobacteria and its health impacts on the Clear Lake habitat.

All tribal community from around Clear Lake are invited to attend and participate. Attendees will learn about cyanobacteria monitoring programs and will contribute to the creation of a series of health warning and informational signs and displays to be installed along tribal lands surrounding the lake.

Informed by the work of the Cyanobacteria Tribal Task Force, Big Valley Rancheria and Elem Colony will discuss historical and current water quality conditions of the Lake. This will lead into the current work to develop a clear and helpful signage and kiosk system that will keep all visitors adequately informed on current water quality conditions in the lake.

The project is funded by the CalEPA Environmental Justice Program.

This unique workshop will combine science, art and Pomo traditional environmental knowledge (TEK) in a creative approach to the development of site specific, culturally sensitive and scientifically accurate information systems regarding health warning signage on Clear Lake.

Art supplies and refreshments will be provided. Your entire family is welcome to attend. The tribe looks forward to bringing Tribal Elders, Tribal community members and Tribal youth together to create a solution that works for all.
