The board of directors for SPCA of Clear Lake decided to suspend shelter operations effective Jan. 30. As part of this decision, they will no longer accept animals from the public, effective immediately.

In place of shelter operations, the board opted to focus efforts on affordable spay and neuter programs. In a press statement issued Thursday evening, board members claimed this decision would fulfill the organization’s “number one goal … to reduce the number of unwanted animals in Lake County. \\ Animals currently at the shelter will remain, for now. The board plans to continue to adopt out animals held at the shelter for a reduced fee.

Adoption fees for animals at the SPCA are now $75 for dogs and $45 for cats. Any animals remaining at SPCA after Jan. 30 will be transferred to other rescues or shelters.

The SPCA will still be holding the monthly vaccination clinic on Jan. 16, 2016 from 9 a.m to 11 a.m.
