The Redbud Audubon Christmas bird count produced 139 separate species of birds being counted. According to Brad Barnwell, the most numerous species was the western grebe with 25,389 birds. In second place was the ruddy duck with 4,897 birds. The rarest species was the winter wren with two being counted.
Audubon members counted 11 bald eagles and one golden eagle. One osprey was also counted. There were 213 vultures counted and 251 pelicans. The total number of birds of all species added up to 49,079.
Barnwell said a total 52 people participated in annual count.
