EUREKA >> Jury selection in the second double murder trial against Lucerne resident Jason Michael Arreaga has been delayed to Jan. 25, Humboldt County District Attorney Maggie Fleming said on Friday.
Arreaga, a Lake County resident, is accused of fatally shooting Angel Robin Tully and Harley Wanye Hammers, both 37, on Sept. 3, 2014 in front of a Fieldbrook residence on Fieldbrook Road. Charged with two counts of murder and facing life in prison.
Arreaga’s case went to jury trial in late September. After hearing a month of testimony from witnesses and investigators, the jury hung at 9-3 in favor of conviction and a mistrial was declared.
Jury selection for Arreaga’s second case was set to begin on Jan. 11, but was rescheduled for Jan. 25 during a trial assignment hearing on Friday at the Humboldt County Superior Court. Citing a gag order in the case, Fleming said she could not comment on why the date was changed.
Arreaga is also set to appear for a trial assignment hearing on Jan. 22 at 8:30 a.m.
