FORT BRAGG >> It’s still early in the North Central League I varsity boys’ basketball race, but the Fort Bragg Timberwolves stand alone atop the standings as the only remaining undefeated team after a 78-66 victory over the visiting Lower Lake Trojans on Tuesday night.
Both teams carried 2-0 league records into action. Fort Bragg improved to a perfect 3-0 despite 19 points from Marlon Jones, 11 each from Hokulani Wickard and Jerod Alexander, and 10 from Garrett Chernoh.
“We were not recovering on defense and they were beating us down the floor,” Lower Lake coach Shannon Tubbs said . “They were executing pretty much whatever they wanted.”
Fort Bragg’s quick start in league play includes victories over Kelseyville and Willits as well.
“They play solid defense,” Tubbs said.
Lower Lake got off to a bad start but recovered to trail by only 21-15 after the first quarter. Fort Bragg took control of the game with a 27-11 second period and never looked back.
Myles Anderson, son of Fort Bragg head coach Tim Anderson, led the Timberwolves with 34 points.
“He kept slipping away from us, getting lost in our defense,” Tubbs said.
Anderson buried six 3-pointers.
