LOWER LAKE >> Members of the Lower Lake Punishers youth wrestling club were scattered across the map in two states this past weekend, competing in tournaments in Livermore, Loomis and El Paso, Texas.
Travis Boyles headed to the Lone Star State to participate in the Texas All-Star Classic, a Rocky Mountain Nationals Tournament and a qualifier for the Tri-State belt. Boyles wrestled in two weight classes — 8-and-under 46-pounds and 8-and-under 50 pounds. In 8-and-under 46 pounds, he pinned all of his opponents in a combined time of 75 seconds to earn the championship belt and the outstanding wrestler trophy for his age division. In 8-and-under 50, he placed third.
Traveling to Granada High School in Livermore were 10 Punishers and three came away with weight division titles. They were Jon Fredrickson in the 70-pound schoolboy division, Austin Fredrickson in the 66-pound Novice division, and Nicholas Celli in the 67-pound Intermediate division. For the Fredrickson brothers, all of their wins came by pin or technical fall.
Second-place medals went to Mario Cuellar in the schoolboy division, where he finished 3-1; to Adam Viramontes in the Novice division; to Carter Rudolph in the Bantam division; and to Jayden Roath in the Intermediate division where he lost to teammate Celli in the finals.
Mason Roath placed third in the 66-pound Novice division.
At Del Oro High School in Loomis, Isaiah Rubio won the varsity 66-pound division while teammates Bryan and Arturo Gudino finished second in their respective weight classes.
The Punishers will split their squad again this Saturday. Some of the club’s wrestlers are competing in the Spider Patch Invitational in Orland while others are entered in a Bronco Wrestling Club tournament in Sacramento.
