Madalynn Chernoh, a 5th grade student at Lower Lake Elementary, entered into a nation-wide art contest and won. Shoparoo, a fundraising site, posted a Halloween-themed art contest on their Facebook page in October. Students from all over the country submitted their best drawing in hopes of winning. The prize was a plush toy inspired by the winner’s artwork. The artist with the most Facebook “likes” would essentially have their drawing brought to life. Chernoh was one of two winners, receiving 320 likes for her drawing. She recently had the privilege of showcasing her very own, one of a kind plush toy at a school assembly. She named her creation ‘Pumpkin patch Penelope.’ This is the second art contest that Chernoh has won. Last spring she won the California-based Arbor Day art contest, where she designed a poster which was displayed in the State Capitol.
