Blue Lakes >> Authorities have arrested a man they believe to be responsible for a death after finding a lifeless body in a rural area Tuesday afternoon.

Calvin Bennett McDonald is in custody at the Lake County jail on a $1 million bail for his alleged involvement in the reported murder of Upper Lake resident James Flowers, 26.

Deputies received a report at about 3:15 p.m. of the victim’s body lying in a rural parcel of property in the Blue Lakes area, at which time they also received notice McDonald, 26, may be a suspect in the Flowers’ death, Lt. Steve Brooks of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) said in a press statement.

Upon discovering the body, deputies requested that detectives from the LCSO Major Crimes Unit respond to the scene. As additional investigators were arriving, central dispatch provided a description of McDonald, who was found within 30 minutes at approximately 3:45 p.m. He was detained by officers who spotted him in the area of Blue Lakes Cove and West Highway 20 in Upper Lake.

The LCSO is currently investigating this case a homicide, Brooks said.

McDonald faces two felony charges of murder and assault with a deadly weapon. The exact cause of death is pending autopsy results, which is scheduled for later this week.
