LAKE COUNTY >> It’s another full Friday of high school varsity basketball action as boys’ and girls’ teams hit the hardwood in North Central League I and II contests around the Redwood Empire.
Games taking place right here in Lake County tonight feature a NCL I boys’ battle between Kelseyville (2-1) and Lower Lake (2-1) in Kelseyville while girls’ teams from the same two schools square off in Lower Lake where the Knights (3-0) shoot for a fourth straight league win against the Trojans (2-1), who have won two in a row.
Also tonight in the county, the boys’ headliner features Clear Lake (2-1) at home against Fort Bragg (3-0), the only remaining undefeated team in the NCL I ranks. Two boys’ teams battling at the other end of the standings are Middletown (0-3) against St. Helena (0-3) at Middletown.
Road games have the Upper Lake boys and girls at Calistoga where the undefeated Cougar girls try for a fourth consecutive NCL II victory; the undefeated Middletown girls at St. Helena, and the Clear Lake girls at Fort Bragg in a battle of 1-2 teams fighting to stay close to the league leaders.
In the junior varsity girls’ ranks, Kelseyville (3-0) and Lower Lake (3-0) square off in Lower Lake while the Kelseyville (3-0) and Lower Lake (2-1) JV boys’ teams meet in Kelseyville.
One school record is likely to fall tonight as Middletown senior Ashlyn Welton needs needs only four points to become the Mustangs’ all-time leading scorer among girls. She enters play with 1,032 points, just three behind leader Kat Cardoza (Class of 2000) with 1,035.
