Clearlake >> Praises of Zion Baptist Church is sponsoring a “Day of Unity,” in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and is inviting all churches, religions, organizations, civic leaders, and people of all genders and ethnicities to participate and show that unity and tolerance will be the goal in Lake County. This is an “all people inclusive” event.

The celebration will be at Highlands Senior Activity Center, 3245 Bowers Ave. in Clearlake on Monday, Jan. 18 from noon to 3 p.m. Organizers are currently assembling the agenda for music, entertainment, guest speakers and special presentations. If you would like to participate, call Lynette Kirkwood at 461-9409. The organizers hope to have a good representation of all people, organizations, non-profits, and religions in Lake County in this community event.

Those that have already agreed to participate are Pomo dancers, Blues musicians, an NAACP guest speaker, media personality, church leaders, civic leaders, and much more. This was a very successful event last year and even more participation is expected this year. Due to the impending El Nino, the event is scheduled indoors instead of Austin Park.

If you can donate prepackaged food, water or other items, contact Lynette Kirkwood.

Lake County AmeriCorps members will be participating in this special day.
