Lakeport >> A man who allegedly stole a gun and car early Thursday morning is in police custody.
At approximately 1 a.m. Lakeport Police Department (LPD) officers were dispatched to 1247 Hartley Road and 13th Street when a woman reported a domestic disturbance, LPD Sgt. Gary Basor said in a press statement.
Upon their arrival, officers met with the woman who told them Charles Perkins, 37, had been drinking, became violent and was punching holes in walls. Perkins reportedly grabbed a handgun from her dresser and threatened to kill the woman and then himself. He is thought to be a military veteran, although police could not confirm his status at press time. Authorities believe he may be suffering from PTSD.
The woman was able to get away and go to a neighbor’s residence to call 911. Perkins allegedly took her cell phone and handgun, and then left in the her vehicle.
Lakeport officers, with the assistance of the cell phone company, were able to track the cellphone to an address in Balyis Cove. Deputies from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded to the address, found Perkins and took him into custody.
Perkins faces charges of robbery, assault with a firearm, criminal threats, grand theft and vehicle Theft. He was booked into the Lake County Jail with a bail of $150.000. The woman’s vehicle was located a short distance away from where Perkins lived. Lakeport officers impounded the vehicle for evidence,
Basor said. A search warrant was also obtained to search Perkins’ home for evidence.
