LAKEPORT >> Kelseyville High School claimed the team title while Middletown came in third on Saturday during the fourth annual Michael Kroppmann Memorial Wrestling Tournament at Clear Lake High School in Lakeport.

While the Knights dominated the field with six firsts, one of the tournament standouts was Christina Wilson of Upper Lake, who easily navigated the 120-pound boys’ bracket, posting a 4-0 record with three pins. She not only won her weight division but earned the tournament’s outstanding lightweight award.

Kelseyville

Led by the likes of Alex Garcia (128), Patrick Mick (148) and Adryan Thomas (197) among the boys and Jasmin Clarke (220) among the girls, the Kelseyville Knights won a total of 17 medals while capturing the team title in front of runner-up Fort Bragg High School.

Kelseyville’s boys qualified for six weight division finals and went 5-1 in those matches to go along with two third-place finishes (all the names not available at press time).

For the Kelseyville girls, besides Clarke’s championship at 220 pounds, Kylie Marlin came in second at 106 pounds while twin sister Korbin finished third in the same weight class.

Middletown

The Middletown Mustangs, fresh off their win last week at their own tournament, didn’t take a full squad to Lakeport but still came in third in the team standings while claiming eight medals, including firsts by Jonathan Wilson at 138 pounds, Scott Kelly (152) and Wyatt Jones (170).

“Scott Kelly had one of the most exciting finals matches,” Middletown coach Brian Hunt said of a win by decision over Clear Lake’s Isaac Lewis. “A lot of the points were scored right there at the end. It was a really good match.”

Middletown picked up second-place finishes from Quentin Crayne (126) and Peter Sullivan (160), thirds from Caden McDowell (106) and John Kelly (120), and a fifth from Jake Samson (132).

While Middletown’s boys were in action at Lakeport, the team’s girls competed in a tournament at American Canyon and had six medalists, led by weight division winners Isabella Quintana-Ocken (152) and Rachel Harvey (162). Kailei Foltmer added a second-place medal at 128 pounds, Kylie Dredge was third at 123, Alixe Olson was fourth at 152, and Angela Egger came in fifth at 103.

Upper Lake

Wilson wasn’t Upper Lake’s only winner as teammate Angel Stith went 2-0 with two pins in the 101-pound girls’ division. Chelsie Valdez went 2-1 with two pins to finish second at 137 pounds, Nick Warner went 2-2 to place third at 220 pounds, and Dante Bassignani was fourth with a 3-2 record at 152 pounds.

Two members of Upper Lake’s boys’ squad participated in the Tim Brown Memorial tournament in Sacramento during the weekend. Alex Sanchez went 3-2 in Friday’s opening rounds at 126 pounds and didn’t advance to the second day of the double-elimination tournament while teammate Junior Fernandez, the fourth seed at 120 pounds, won his only two matches on Friday by 15-0 and 16-0 technical falls, but then lost his first two matches on Saturday. The first was by 12-4 decision and the second by pin to the No. 3 seed.

Clear Lake

Tournament host Clear Lake entered eight wrestlers and claimed seven medals, including firsts by Emily Psalmonds in the 116-pound girls’ division and Jacob Pyorre in the 113-pound boys’ division.

Psalmonds went 2-0 with one pin while Pyorre registered pins in two of his three wins.

Lewis, the runner-up to Middletown’s Kelly at 152 pounds, finished 2-1 with two pins.

Also for Clear Lake, Ciera Moreno (142) went 2-1 with two pins to place third, Kally Vinson finished second to sister Haily Vinson’s third at 220 pounds, and Alicia Ledesma claimed sixth place at 116 pounds.
