SAN RAFAEL >> Isabella Quintana-Ocken of the Middletown Mustangs placed second in the 152-pound division in the elite bracket on Monday during the Martin Luther King Bash girls’ wrestling tournament in San Rafael.
Quintana-Ocken’s teammates, Rachel Harvey (160) and Kailei Foltmer (133), also wrestled in the elite bracket, Harvey placing third and Foltmer fourth.
In the varsity bracket, Kylie Dredge won the 128-pound division and Carissa Forest added a fifth-place medal at 108 pounds.
“It was a great weekend,” Middletown coach Brian Hunt said of the Michael Kroppmann Memorial boys’ tournament in Lakeport, which was attended by the Middletown boys, and the girls’ participation in San Rafael.
“We won a lot of hardware,” Hunt added.
Lower Lake sent five girls to the tournament and three came away with medals, which were awarded to the top six in each weight class.
Abebreanna Gonzales placed fifth in the 113-pound elite bracket, Lilly Wetmore was second in the 126-pound varsity bracket, and Tawnie Nell was sixth in the 108-pound varsity bracket.
“The tournament is probably only going to get bigger in the future,” Lower Lake coach Ed Fuchs said. “The belt they gave out for first is absolutely gorgeous. I know our girls want to come back next year and they want to win that belt.”
Kelseyville High School also had three medal winners led by Jasmin Clarke (second), Kylie Marlin (third) and Bri Thomas (fifth).
Tokay High School of Lodi won the team championship.
