LOWER LAKE >> Vanessa Hughes scored 32 points, 24 of them on eight 3-pointers, and the Lower Lake Trojans turned back the Kelseyville Knights 51-42 on Friday night in junior varsity girls’ basketball action at Lower Lake.

Both teams entered play 3-0 in the North Central League I standings.

“She just lit us up,” Kelseyville coach Don Green said of the sophomore Hughes.

Bailey Couey paced the Knights (3-1) with 14 points and Tymeka Green added 10.

Kelseyville hosts another 4-0 league team, the Clear Lake Cardinals, today at 3:30 p.m. Lower Lake (4-0) returns to action today in Willits at 5:30 p.m.

In other JV girls’ action Friday:

Clear Lake 51, Fort Bragg 11

At Fort Bragg, Kortnie Reynolds and Grace Davidson led the way with 15 and 14 points, respectively, and Cassondra Bassett had 10 as the Clear Lake Cardinals beat the Fort Bragg Timberwolves to remain tied atop the league standings with Lower Lake.

Upper Lake 46, Calistoga 19

At Calistoga, Upper Lake improved to 3-1 in the NCL II standings behind 20 points from Julia Mooney and 13 from Cheyanne Obedoza. Katlyn Minnis added eight points.

Boys’ basketball

Clear Lake 73, Fort Bragg 50

At Fort Bragg, the Clear Lake Cardinals pushed their NCL I record to 3-1 with a lopsided victory over the Fort Bragg Timberwolves.

Rodrigo Lupercio led the Cardinals with 14 points while Jacob Elsa, Luis Martinez and Lucas Stahr added nine apiece.

Clear Lake hits the road today to play undefeated Kelseyville (4-0) at 5 p.m.

K’ville 42, Lower Lake 36

At Lower Lake, the Kelseyville Knights didn’t have the best shooting night but were still able to beat the Lower Lake Trojans and improve to 4-0 in the NCL I standings and 12-4 overall.

Adrian Villalobos led the Knights with 17 points and Scott Sanchez had 14.

For Lower Lake (2-2), Taylor Scott led the way with 17 points and Jermaine Watson added 12.

Kelseyville is home tonight to play Clear Lake (3-1) at 5 p.m. Lower Lake hosts Willits at 5:30 p.m.

Upper Lake 60, Calistoga 35

At Calistoga, Chris Fecht scored 15 points and Robert Neils contributed 14 as the Upper Lake Cougars rolled past Calistoga in NCL II action.

The Cougars are 4-0 in league play headed into today’s road game against Sonoma Academy.
