KELSEYVILLE >> The Kelseyville Knights dominated inside and outside while beating the Clear Lake Cardinals 59-41 in a North Central League I junior varsity boys’ basketball game on Tuesday night in Kelseyville.

The win keeps Kelseyville undefeated in league play at 5-0 and the seventh straight victory overall pushes the Knights’ record to 13-4.

In the third meeting between the two teams this season, the Knights notched their first victory behind five 3-pointers from Randy Pfann, who finished with a team-leading 17 points overall, and the rebounding of Johnny Mendonca.

“He always does a great job on the boards for us,” Kelseyville coach Rich Facey said of the sophomore. “They (Cardinals) usually got only one shot.”

Kelseyville moved out to a 27-17 halftime and kept on adding to its lead in the second half. Two factors working in the Knights’ favor were their shooting and defense, according to Facey.

“We didn’t shoot very well in our last game but we had a good shooting night tonight,” Facey said.

Adrian Villalobos and Scott Sanchez joined teammate Pfann in double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively, while Sanchez also teamed with Mendonca to control the offensive and defensive boards.

Kelseyville also threw a new wrinkle Clear Lake’s way in the form of a matchup zone defense.

“We played sound defense the whole way,” Facey said.

Jacob Elsa and Tanner Cole had nine points apiece to lead Clear Lake, now 3-2.

Kelseyville travels to Middletown on Friday while Clear Lake visits Willits. Tip-off at both locations is 6 p.m.

“We were down by as many as 12 or 13 points,” Lower Lake coach Jeremy Jakubowski said. “We got a little more pressure on them in the second half.”
